The Baltimore Orioles, one of the clubs hit hardest by the Mitchell Report, issued a statement Saturday night calling for tougher drug testing but asking the public not to judge players based on "unsubstantiated allegations." Nineteen current or former Orioles were named in the report as having used illegal performance-enhancing drugs, including All-Stars Miguel Tejada and Brian Roberts.

Clemens made a point to learn about baseball's greatest pitchers as he joined their ranks, often putting up pictures of old-timers in his locker. He clearly knows the game's history, so he's surely aware of this: The mere mention of steroid suspicion can block the door to the Hall of Fame.

On his climb to 300 wins, Roger Clemens made a point to learn all about baseball's greatest pitchers. As he joined their ranks, Clemens kept pictures of the old-timers in his locker. He'd reach in to grab his glove, history would stare back. Lefty Grove, Early Wynn, Rube Marquard -- they all kept watch.

The New York Mets will raise ticket prices about 20 percent for next season, reflecting their high payroll and upcoming move to a new ballpark. The Mets recently sent out season-ticket renewal forms. Prices last season ran from $108 for Metro Club Gold seats near the dugouts to $5 for spots in the top rows at Shea Stadium.

Pettitte admits briefly using HGH in ‘02 (AP)

Andy Pettitte used human growth hormone to recover from an elbow injury in 2002, the New York Yankees pitcher admitted two days after he was cited in the Mitchell Report. Pettitte said he tried HGH on two occasions, stressing he did it to heal faster and not enhance his performance. He emphasized he never used steroids.

The  San Diego Padres obtained the 37-year-old center fielder and cash from the St. Louis Cardinals on Saturday, Dec. 15, 2007, for a minor leaguer. The deal needed approval of the commissioner's office because the Cardinals are sending approximately $1 million to the Padres to help offset Edmonds' 2008 salary.

Jim Edmonds is returning to Southern California after eight seasons in the Midwest, eager to prove he's healthy and still an everyday player. He'll get that chance starting March 31 when he takes his position in Petco Park's spacious center field.
